To the Otley Chevin. A different view.

First we went to one of the car parks on the Otley Chevin , on the steep part. We walked down to the other side of the road......

realised we were on the wrong side of the Chevin...beautiful as it is this is not what I was looking for this day.
So we headed back to The Fonz car and looked on the other side of the Chevin. We were still in the wrong place to find the witch tree but we stayed to see the view anyway. It is stunning.

This in effect is our back garden. We live about three second by Fonz car from here. Walking is entirely a different matter. We leave that to others who flock here with their back packs and ramblers sticks.

I like to explore and go on days out...but a walking holiday!? no. We met a couple just as we were coming back from the stunning view. They looked at us kind of "what are you doing here?" and said hello. A Grandma, a child who was screaming and her son me thinks. All lumped with each other for the summer holiday amusement rounds......They were dressed for walking. We were not in the conventional way. I was wearing my usual flowing skirts...though I had left the flip flops at home! The thing is walkers !!! We live here. Tourist walkers looking at us like we are crazy. Titter.
Then we headed back to The Fonz car again then DROVE.....around to Birdcage walk. We managed to get the Fonz as far as the gates to the road to the White house on the Chevin. As we walked up towards the Witch tree the same walkers met us coming down......this time they were totally bewildered by our presence. How the hell had we got a head of them so quickly!? well don't tell.
We found the witch tree....And here it is. Lee has not been on these paths for thirty five years. He used to come here when bunking off school with his bike. Time has gone very quickly. Of course he does not look a day older than the last time.
We found the witch tree on a lonely path leading to the White house by the Chevin steps. There is also a wall that was used to keep cattle from falling off the edge of the Chevin that I wanted to find. It looks like teeth.
I would have had to climb these steps. It will have to be another day as my balance had gone on the climb up the path to the witch tree. I had started to totter....so we called it a day and headed to the proper path by the white house ........
So we found the Witch tree. This is what we came to do.
So what is a Witch tree!? well it is a spirit tree.

The white house on Otley Chevin has a cafe and maps as well as loos and education rooms. It is open every day except Tuesday. It is Tuesday this day.

Almscliffe cragg in the distance as we walked back down......
Otley from a different angle!.....
And to the Fonz car. As we parked up on this very steep Chevin road Lee took the time to tell me that the handbrake was knackered and does not hold. It had been like that from the day he bought the car a few weeks ago now. He had tried fixing it but it needs a new cable. So it was now he chose to impart this information. So he parked up The Fonz, angled the wheels into a lock towards the verge and put The Fonz into reverse. This was our car parked on a high steep hill. When I got back into it...it juddered slightly and lurched to the side. I swear it groaned too.
With that we headed into Otley to go to the junk shops.  We got lunch of sausage rolls and the inevitable Chocolate eclairs and then I found two dolls to rescue and Lee found some old cutlery....spoons and forks that are intended as Christmas decorations once he has transformed them with his welder.
