The secret life of cows. This is a book I saw in the window of a shop in Ilkley. It is a book by Rosamund Young....The secret life of cows. So what do cows get up to? well I am named after Three cows. My father's favourites I am told. So my father had it sussed then. He must have known all about it. this book has a forward by Alan Bennett. who very obviously has a soft spot for cows and a great understanding and mutual admiration.
Cows have character and are very intelligent. possibly not as much as Monza dog but defo more so than me.The lady who wrote this book is a farmer and knows a thing or two about cows. They have their own mannerisms......or language if you prefer and fashion sense...yes they can tell when you have made yourself look stupid and they do not like a lot of perfume or after shave...they will chase you if you come across them in a field....they do not like David Beckham aftershave at all...Lee will tell you that....and they have likes and dislikes concerning food..... So yes a good read if you like cows.... I am waiting for it to come out in the junk shops myself.
We came to Ilkley the bumpy way today.....past the little villages ...the Hermit pub and down past the Cow and Calf rocks.
It is Saturday and the sun is about to come out and a lot of people are about.
We got to Ilkley just in time to park up in a cool place for Monza dog and then everyone else arrived just as we were walking along to the first charity shop.
We went past the old library building a fabulous art nouveau fasard and we went inside....usually we walk on by. We discovered that it is a library and everyone is reading books in the quiet. The inside is not as sensational as the outside and holds no fascination really unless you actually do want to go to a library.
The junk shops held no treasures that I was about to buy and they were shuffle full of very posh people and dogs....We like to go to ilkley as we can see how all the posh pedigree dogs and lap dogs are doing.......Most shops allow dogs in Ilkley. Most of the dogs are extremely well behaved. None are German Shepards either I note. lots of poodle types and those little fluffy ones that we call " a sneeze".....And I did see what looked like an Alaskan malamute....he was pulling on his lead...not that interested in junk shop much.
At the Grove in the old bandstand there was a band giving a free concert.....The Malamute did not think much of this either...they were quite good and we walked along to "you do something to me..." Paul Weller fave of mine.
"what is it?" asked Lee.....He is a bit younger than me. He does not remember Paul Weller and the JAM!!!! The band were Hurricaine Blue and often give a free concert on a Saturday at this band stand.
We drifted off to the rest of the charity shops....I used to love this song. God only knows why as it reminds me of my house on Daniel road Truro, Cornwall and a friend from that time called Ian.
Any way we went to the other junk shops and eventually I found this little girl from the 1960's. She is unmarked but otherwise in good condition.........
The sun came out hot hot hot and we had to dis guard coats on the way back to rescue Monza dog in the car...we got our Chocolate eclairs from Tesco this day...they are coated with soft Belgian chocolate from this store.......posh is Ilkley.

You do something to me
Something deep inside
I'm hanging on the wire
For a love I'll never find
Something deep inside
I'm hanging on the wire
For a love I'll never find
You do something wonderful
Then chase it all away
Mixing my emotions
That throws me back again
Then chase it all away
Mixing my emotions
That throws me back again
Hanging on the wire, yeah
I'm waiting for the change
I'm dancing through the fire
Just to catch a flame
An' feel real again
I'm waiting for the change
I'm dancing through the fire
Just to catch a flame
An' feel real again
Hanging on the wire, yeah
Said I'm waiting for the change
Oh, I'm dancing through the fire
Just to catch a flame
An' feel real again
Said I'm waiting for the change
Oh, I'm dancing through the fire
Just to catch a flame
An' feel real again
You do something to me
Somewhere deep…
Somewhere deep…
