This is Skipton Castle woods. There was no teddy bears picnic but there was plenty of magic, enchanted light and autumn colour scattered like confetti on our path.
The way to the woods is along the canal past the castle itself towering above.
"There ain't no way anyone invading here......wonder how they put them new window frames in? never been breached? no....Ah can't see 'ow either..." stated Lee as we walked the bridges and raised walk ways long the way.
Rock. steep unforgiving rock. that is where this Castle stands. We passed some beautiful houses on the way past.....Really they have to be THE place to live here!
It is private property we were walking past. So were plenty of others and dogs......I noted on the way past that there is a beautiful log cabin on this path which is owned by the woodland trust and is rented out for holidays.......skipton woods cottages link I have put a link here .....see this and weep! it is totally sensational!!!!!
Through the gates we went and into another world....a magical kingdom. An ancient woodland with over a thousand years of history.......
We kept to the lower paths on this visit and went as far as the dam and back. This area is huge and has been enhanced with willow sculptures. These are what I came to see really. Everything else was a bonus.

It would be possible to spend a whole day here......
A combination of all my favourite things. Trees , water and colour.....reflections in water......

This is the path that goes up....and up.....we did not go that way today.
I took along a doll dressed for Halloween. A white witch. I almost forgot about her! as there was so much else to look at.
And back the way we came along the canal.....
This narrow boat is for sale. tempted? I am! imagine living on this boat right here.......Though practically ...Monza dog would never fit inside and my doll collection would have to go......
So if you go down in the woods today be sure of a big surprise......
We will be returning here and the castle. these are currently my total faves.
