These photos were taken on my mobile phone. We were not "going anywhere" today so I left my camera at home. The idea was to get rid of rubbish which haunts my garden and makes us look like a version of Steptoe and son from the 1970's. ( american readers?! well this was a situation comedy on the telly in the 1970's about rag and bone men who lived inside a house full of "antiques and junk" collected in a horse and cart. some they sold on and some they just kept!!!! ) Lee and I used to run a business "a man with a van" which was a similar business.....
Also I have been redesigning and trimming huge amounts of climbers and ivy in the gardens which is also piles up collecting wasps etc. So today was to be loading of the Fonz car and clear said Steptoe and Son piles of junk.
We walked Monza and then Lee said " I know where we have not been for ages...." and sped off in the Fonz car towards Guiseley.
We drove into the old Mental hospital at Menston and then visited the memorial garden as they now call it. It is the grave yard where all the inmates of the old paupers hospital or institution ended up in un marked graves. They were given a number...if they were lucky.
We had never been to the "memorial gardens" before. I was quite shocked by the vast expanse with only two grave stones......
This little chapel.....
well over 2000 people are buried here. two have a grave marked with a headstone. the notice says that there were up to three bodies in each grave.
I put my phone camera up against the glass....this is what the interior of this little chapel looks like....
I could not resist a look inside. Note the black and white photos on the walls.......
These were all inmates of this asylum. Once admitted you died there. That was Your whole life.
One of the two memorial head stones in the grave yard....
This is the plan of this grave yard with numbered plots. Looking for some one? you will need their number first........
This is the land that the above map relates to. looking for some one? no chance!
Unmarked graves with multiple occupants. Scary and shocking isn't it?
This vast site also had it's very own railway.
The whole vast site was a village for the insane and was it's own community. As I say....once admitted you would never return to your life outside. The only escape was death and an unmarked grave. Going into this hospital meant you disappeared and all memory was lost.
Most of the site is now exclusive living accommodation. really beautifully converted houses and apartments.....
This is the final part to be converted. The clock tower and ballrooms......
It is to be beautiful (and expensive no doubt) apartments.
It is now called Chevin Park and is not mentioned anywhere about the history of the old place.
It looks so fabulous. As "a man with a van" we moved a few people in and very quickly back out of these new flats. Even if you manage not to be aware of the past history, the echoes of this place and the treatments, history and feelings are very very strong weather you are a believer in ghosts and haunting s or not.

http://www.highroydshospital.com/ A link to a very interesting site which will tell you all!
After this we went to a super market and I bought some interesting chocolate and some dinner. Then and only then did we eat our lunch and load the car with junk to go to the local rubbish tip.
I helped stuff it all into the Fonz car and then stayed behind to make more mess by weeding.
The above pictures were the last taken on my mobile phone. I did not miss it until about 4pm. Whilst loading the car it fell out of my pocket and got tangled into the stuff going to the tip. we know this as I used the google tracking thing on my computer.....I phoned them this morning. so if it is in the garden skip it has been flattened as a roller is used to pad down the contents. It stopped sending a signal at about 6.30 so I think it is flattened in a skip.
So that is the end of that mobile phone.
