A doll or two for Christmas.

A Walky Talky doll from the late 1960s or early 1970s....

This morning the 23rd of December 2017 at about 5.30 this morning I redressed this doll after her bath and hair wash yesterday. Lee has tried to mend the voice box and walking mechanism and has come to the conclusion that the motor is "blown". I could replace it at some expense, the fact that she is a walky talky was not why I bought her. I liked her face. simple as that. And of course she has that 1960s look that I have started to collect. My childhood I suppose, brought back for my old age as a neurotic whitehair .
a proper psychologist would probably tell you all types of drivel about this one. I just like to collect stuff. It is in my genes.......
so here she is Merry Christmas. And ....yes....I am going to wrap her up and hide her from myself until Christmas day.

Barbie as Marilyn. 1997.

I bought this doll naked as a new baby on Ebay. I paid the most money ever to pass out of my bank account on one item in the last ten years. On the grand scale of purchases it was not really a lot, but it was to me. Most others would have not even bothered to check their statements.
I always wanted a Marilyn doll. I have tried making one from a rescued Barbie doll but could not get the hair right.....I could get it reasonably good but not good enough. I also tried with a Disney doll of Aurora . This worked a lot better but I still wanted a "proper one!" This lady was the first I saw that I could afford.
Some are on ebay for a very lot more than I just paid!!! so Merry Christmas 2017.
Originally this doll wore a copy of the shocking pink dress with huge bow that Marilyn Monroe wore in the movie Gentlemen prefer blonds.
The film was 1953 and directed by Howard Hawkes. The dress was designed by William Trevilla, who was known as Trevilla. He designed a lot of costumes for Marilyn in eight of her films and claimed an affair with her. Trevilla also designed the famous white dress from the subway vent scene in seven year itch. ( I really want this one!!! waiting for one to come up at a more reasonable price now.)
This doll I bought from Ebay came without this dress. I looked around for another dress for her and found this white fishtail dress and fur coat from China. This was far more reasonably priced than the original dress for this doll.....I just could not justify spending the money!!! I probably will quietly in the new year when my husband has got over the expense of Christmas and me buying all my own presents.......

Marilyn and Me by Susan Strasberg

And in the 20 pence shop in Otley I found this book and bought it! this is also now wrapped up for Christmas day along with Marilyn and the new clothes I have bought her so far. ( note the "so far")

Here is how she looked...new and still in her box with original outfit and jewellery..........
Mine came with necklace and earrings intact. I added the diamante tiara from my stash of Barbie stuff.
I am very pleased with the way she turned out after I redressed her. She is now wrapped and waiting for Christmas day.

Below are a few more Barbie dolls that I would not mind......

Whilst I was on Ebay I also bought The same dress for my Elizabeth Taylor doll in lilac.

Elizabeth Taylor was a present from California. I have all the original dress for this doll and shoes. I buy her a new dress every now and then. I have ordered her a new fur coat from China but I do not expect that to be delivered until the new year now.

Another doll I am getting for Christmas this year is this Palitoy doll I found in Otley's Victorian Arcade. Originally she would have walked and talked...... Lee had the voicebox and motor in bits trying to fix her but no joy.
I bought her knowing that she did not work, as I liked her face and the hair is in good condition still. This lady is from late 1960's or early 1970s.
I found these boots in a charity shop in Wetherby and the outfits on hangers in a sale in Boyes Haberdashery in Ilkley.

So far ....
