Monday night and I am now off until Friday. December is underway and the Queen has put up her Christmas decorations and so has Yeadon turned on it's lights for the celebrations. The true meaning of Christmas was lost long ago in the mists of time in the 1960s. I have not been to a Christmas church service or carol and candle ceremony since my last husband was a teacher in a Catholic school where it was my duty as Mrs wife of teacher to attend and sing. The singing part was totally essential as Mr husband teachers career balanced on my performance as a church goer and socialite in that world. Wives needed to be" suitable". The tunes I was singing to greatly differed from my then husbands and harmony was never an option. Hind sight is a wonderful thing as he was already bonking the bejesus out of a fellow teacher. But I did not know that at the time. All I knew was that I was out of tune. Far from the life I have now Uh!!??
Do try not to titter too loudly you may frighten the neighbours. so what happened in the 1960s to ruin the magic of Christmas? well the time was spent by me being a very cute child who would only wear dresses and insisted on matching ribbons for my hair....which was long.....until my mum had the idea of taking me to the hairdressers in Guisborough and it was cut short with a fringe.......I have photos of Lee at the same times with the same hair cut. This took away the need for bows.....and I hated it.
I was my fathers little princess when I was still a cute little girl with pigtails and bows to match my dress. Then mum had my hair cut and I grew. Not so cute anymore and father was not so keen to show me off.....
then in 1969 he was killed in a car crash. just before Christmas it was. His grave stone says "accidentally killed" or something to that effect. He is buried in Danby church yard up by Whitby. I have never been to his grave.
I should I know. I have been back in Yorkshire now ten years and really should go.
I was not welcome at the funeral and never got to say good bye to my father. He was never seen again by me after being removed from his car wreck. My mother was unfortunately working in the morgue at the hospital he was taken too..... A funeral is no place for that child it was said. So that child has not had much to do with father's family since. They came to my last wedding and then dumped me again soon after as being "not quite the ticket".....
Crapped up Christmas well and truly that year too
So this is Yeadon, West Yorkshire in the year 2017 and We are having a bit of a Christmas this year. I have bought piles of presents and had my decorations up since Halloween was taken down.
The lights are on and the lights are fabulous.
My decorations this year are what we might call eclectic. I have put up all my decorations from all years past since I have been back in Yorkshire. A lot of them were "acquired" as junk to go to the rubbish dump when I ran the "a man with a van" business, some I made and a lot I bought in my fave junk shops.
what do we have here? well a walt Disney tree featuring Eeyore, and Alice in Wonderland...which is not really a christmas display as I have this out all year......
Bratz rock Angelz .....next to Alice in Wonderland
alot of these lights and letters were to go to the rubbish tip. I rescued them and reused them....what is the matter with some people!?
A Bratz wedding with some guests and the groom on skis......... I had this beautifully set up. Monza came down the stairs one morning and his tail had the lot over on the floor....so it was start again time. a few fall over most days too...so I have to persevere with this.
I still need to add some more guests and the bride needs a bit of bling. there is time yet as we are only just into December.
So we have lights we have music and now lets party.
The last few years at this time of year I have a hospital appointment to go for the next part of my treatment or find out what the next part of my treatment is to be. This year there is no such appointment as I have been discharged from the hospital as there is nothing further that they can do for me. I have to go back to my own world and make the most of it all.
I have my camera on charge and have Lee primed and ready to go shopping in Leeds Kriskringle market.....
Lee is asleep as I write this and so is Monza. It is 9pm........early yet.
Monza dog will have to stay home and snooze on the rug. I do not feel too bad about leaving him for a few hours as we never ever go into Leeds on the bus to shop or lunch. Ah yes lunch. I have this planned in my head too. I have not told Lee but I intend to Get a pub lunch........a proper one followed by a huge ice cream.
