A rediscovery.

I knew about this artist and loved his work then wandered off and forgot. I was looking for something for my birthday and anniversary presents and started looking at the obvious dolls. then prints of Whitby......a bang! there he was. Back in my life.
John Atkinson Grimshaw.

1836-1893 a Victorian artist very influenced by the PreRaphalite movement. known for his landscapes and night scenes. He was from Leeds and worked on the Great Northern railways as a clerk. He gave this up to become a painter.
Favorite subjects were....dock yards Whitby Glasgow Scarborough.
Knostrop old hall leeds, this was where he lived and housed some of his paintings until 1960 when it was demolished. He died there in 1893 and is buried in Woodhouse cemetery..This was a 17th century stone built mansion by Temple Newsam house
